1961 Zelensis

The Zelensis was found in a second hand advert magazine. It was listed in the motorcycle part as a 1600 Avensis! I phoned the seller and asked if it was a glasfibre body made in Zele? Yes, how do you know that young man, asked the seller. I said I knew the creator Raoul Thiebaut. We hooked up the trailer, drove to the location and bought the car. It was in a poor condition and when I took a seat in it, I could not get out. The door jambed due to sagging from the body. When loaded and ready to leave, the seller came down with the original nose part and a spare window from the car. The nose on the car was from an apal coupe and fitted well. The window was special made for the car. I bought the car, a week before the VW meeting in Bad Camberg 1999. Four years later, it was done and attended the show with it. I guess it was the first meeting where a Zelensis coachbuild car was shown.
